ABOUT MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY
Muscular dystrophy is a collective name for a range of neuromuscular
conditions. It is characterised as a progressive weakening, wasting
and loss of _muscle_ mass over time. It can present at birth,
childhood or manifest later in life.
POSITION DETAILS
JOB TITLE: Programme and Community Development Worker
COMPANY: Muscular Dystrophy Ireland
LOCATION: National Role located South Region. Flexible, remote or
hybrid working opportunity
CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed term contract for * months
SALARY: € *k – *k.
Dependent on experience.
HOURS: * hours per week, one hour paid break.
Monday to Friday. Occasional weekend work may be required.
REPORTS TO: MDI Head of Services
PURPOSE OF JOB
The Programme and Community Development Worker will be responsible for
assessing support needs and supporting people with muscular dystrophy;
youth, young adults and adults and their families. They will also be
responsible for supporting the development and implementation of
specialist national programmes to meet individualised needs
identified. This role will support the delivery of MDI’s strategic
objectives outlined in MDI Strategic Plan * in
conjunction with the wider MDI Team.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
* Conduct assessments of need with people with muscular dystrophy
across all age cohorts youth, young people and adults to identify
individualised needs
* Support the development, implementation and roll out of best
practice, evidence based, specialist national programmes delivered
equally and consistently across age cohorts. i.e. education,
vocational, peer to peer support, independent living skills, emotional
well-being, self-advocacy etc.
* Provide practical timely information, support and referrals to
programmes, services and external agencies where needed for members
based on their needs of assessment
* Identify and implement programmes for MDI members by delivering
outcomes that the members have identified themselves.
* Develop excellence in all programme areas of our service-offering
by using national and international standards against which to
benchmark our performance in conjunction with the head of service
* Monitor programme outcomes by supporting the development of
excellent quality performance metrics tools
* Review programme outcomes on a regular basis and refine programmes
to ensure members outcomes and needs have been achieved
* Implement the process for the systematic recording of members’
own assessments of their goal outcomes and members satisfaction scores
from programmes developed in the Salesforce / CRM database.
* Support the development and implementation of Services Advisory
Groups which are representative of life cycle/age cohorts in
conjunction with the team
* Comply with Policy and Legislation
* Prepare and furnish regular statistical reports
* Prepare budgets
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with all MDI staff
* Participate in support and supervision with your line manager
* Attend team meetings and staff training as required
* Carry out any other duties that may be required by the
organisation to fulfil the needs of the post
SPECIALIST ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* A relevant Qualification
* Proven ability to plan projects, activities and events
* Experience in programme development and implementation
* Experience in conducting assessment of needs
* Experience of working with young people and adults and/or
delivering services to marginalised groups in society
* Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Experience of organising and managing people
* Proven ability to work on own initiative
* Excellent communication skills
* Excellent administration and IT skills
* This role requires flexibility which includes occasional evening
and weekend work
* Due to the nature of this post a full, clean drivers’ licence is
essential
* Self-starter with a process-improvement mindset.
* Flexibility and adaptability in order to meet the demands of the
role and to work and travel within varying locations and different
settings. Occasional travel will be required.
* Ability to organise and manage time effectively and to prioritise
workload in order to meet deadlines.
DESIRABLE SKILLS
* Experience of working with people with disabilities.
